Workshop

Shoulder Stability vs. MobilitySeptember 16, 2017
Inlet Yoga, Manasquan, NJ

“Understanding without practice is better than practicing without understanding”.

In this workshop Marije will share her experience and knowledge of anatomy of the shoulders and how they influence your yoga practice, so that you too can practice with better understanding.

Do you experience a limited range of motion in your shoulders when you practice yoga? Does Downward Facing Dog give you an awkward feeling in your shoulders? Have you been wondering whether you practice Plank and Chaturanga safely? In this workshop we will look at proper shoulder alignment in most common yoga poses. We will also explore whether your shoulder mobility is limited by muscular tension or skeletal compression, and how to work with that.

A sequence of passive (Yin) poses to release tightness in the shoulders, and a subsequent slow (Yang) flow of postures with stable shoulder alignment, will allow you to explore a renewed range of motion and stability in your body.

In this workshop you will explore and practice:

  • the difference between tension and compression;
  • the muscles of the rotator cuff, and how to keep them healthy;
  • passive Yin poses and dynamic sequences for the mobility and stability of the shoulder girdle.

This workshop is for all levels.
